Spring is most definitely on its way, and with it the excuse to invite guests over, lay a beautiful table and enjoy some longgg lazy hours together over great food and drinks!
As you know, I LOVE creating a stylish table setting.
Since Oli is the cook in our household, the table-styling duties fall square on my shoulders. And – don’t tell Oli – but I think that I’ve got the better end of the deal! Haha!
Today I am SO excited to share this spring table setting, which I’ve put together using Sainsbury’s Home’s latest collections. Sainsbury’s Home always amazes me with its value and quality. This year the design team have travelled the world in search of inspiration, and the results are collections which suit just about every taste. From countryside, to classic, urban to global, there’s genuinely a collection for everyone.
My personal favourite is the Global Collection which has a bohemian vibe.
I hope today’s blog post will inspire you to get your loved ones together for a long few hours soon!
A Spring Table Setting
With Sainsbury’s Home
The Overall Concept
I am a total geek when it comes to creating a table setting, and as such I often choose a ‘theme’.
Sainsbury’s Home’s Global Monochrome Collection inspired me for this setup. I love the delicate patterns and Moroccan-esque details.
A quick Pinterest search led me to some beautiful Moroccan/Mediterranean table settings, which helped me to hone in on my vision for the table.
This included:
-Monochrome patterned plates and bowls. I wanted to layer these up, and mix and match the prints.
-Recycled glass vases and tumblers. I have recycled glass all around our home, it reminds me of the water in Menorca.
-Big beautiful blooms in blush colours, with accents of hot pink, white and orange.
-Natural textures from linens I’ve been collecting.
-A welcoming relaxed feel to the room as a whole, with plenty of Mediterranean and Moroccan influences.
Laying The Table
^^^ How dreamy is this plate/bowl setup?! ^^^
As I shared in my blog post on Laying A Relaxed Table Setting, I’m pretty formulaic when it comes to designing a tablescape.
It all starts with a centre piece. For this setup I used three low glass vases from Sainsbury’s Home, and filled them with an array of flowers and foliage. The overall effect I wanted was for the flowers to feel full and wild, but still elegant.
I used a pretty tray I’ve had for years to place the vases on, and I then used some dried eucalyptus to hug the vases and create more of a statement centrepiece.
I tail-ended the central arrangement with bowls from the Global Collection. These bowls are prefect for salads, and other elements of the meal which Oli and I like to serve ‘family style’. For this styled shoot I simply placed a few fresh Seville oranges in the bowls to add some colour to the table.
When it comes to laying the plates out, I like to use a single dinner plate as the base and then place a bowl on top.
I often mix and match these, depending on how many of each design I have to hand. Since both of these tableware collections come in black and white, it’s easy to mix them up.
For the napkins I used some linen pieces I’ve had for a while, and simply knotted them at the top. This provided a relaxed accent.
Finally, the tumblers are all recycled glass and add the perfect touch of Mediterranean blue to the table. I always associate this type of votive with long hot lunches in the shade.
Flowers & Details
Flowers and natural elements are hugely important to me when it comes to styling a space. They bring an area to life!
As I mentioned above I focused in on blush flowers, with white and hot pink accents. As a rule of thumb, I leave one third of my flowers exposed, to two thirds within the vase.
I always like to include lots of textures like linen, cotton and tassels. These pretty cushions from Sainsbury’s Home were perfect for this setup.
You’ll see that I’ve just recently set up a little bench area in our kitchen, and these cushions work a charm. It’s now so easy for our guests (or me! Haha!) to sit down and chat to Oli while he cooks. We like to offer moral support ????!
Overall
A beautifully-styled table and kitchen makes me so happy, and it sets the tone for a great occasion. Guests always notice when you’ve put the extra effort in!
Now we just need to send the invites out . . . !
