My Daytime Summer Makeup Look
When it comes to a daytime summer makeup look I am ALL about the glow.
There is something about that natural brush with summer sunshine which makes a glow-y makeup look all the more desirable.
Read on for my current favourite daytime summer makeup look, how to naturally ‘get that glow’ and a full low down of the products I am using to achieve it . . . !
First Up – You’ve Got To Begin From Within – No Side-Stepping This One!
A glowy makeup look will always look most authentic, and truly healthy when your skin is glowing from within.
Rewind to a few weeks ago and I had the most horrendous breakout I’ve probably ever had. Hormonal bumpy acne which left me feeling SO self conscious.
One awkward thing about bad skin? You simultaneously want to wear no makeup to allow your skin to breathe and ALLL the makeup to cover your blemishes.
I’m no dermatologist, so if you’re skin is really giving you grief, then I suggest booking an appointment with your doctor or a specialist.
However, what I do know is that if you run yourself into the ground, you deplete your energy resources, eat badly, don’t exercise, don’t laugh a lot and generally work yourself like a dog – it’ll show.
If not in your skin then somewhere else.
A true glow really does start from within, so if you’re feeling less than glow-y right now I suggest stripping things back and focusing on YOU first and foremost.
Here’s a quick lowdown of things that can help to get you back on track with naturally glowing skin:
Supplements – I’ve been taking Alissa Vitti’s advice on hormonal acne.
Exercise – summertime is the PERFECT time to get outside! Go for a run or follow a workout outdoors.
Eat Well – I believe we all have a diet which will make us feel most energised and well. Recently I followed the Camille Styles Cleanse and I felt SO much better for it. So much so that I’ve kept it up (albeit in a more relaxed form) for the past three weeks or so.
Journal Any Negative Thoughts – Argh, that internal dialogue that can be so darn negative? My top tip for switching your thoughts up is to journal them down. Get them out of your head and on to paper.
Get Drunk With Friends – Counterintuitive to the cleanse I know but sometimes you just need to book in a big dinner with friends, let the drinks flow and have F U N! Laughter releases endorphins which helps your skin to glow!
And then work on the outside . . . !
Here’s The Makeup Look I’m Loving
There are SO many gorgeous beauty products out there to help you to achieve a glowing daytime beauty look.
Here are a few of my favourites which I am currently using to help me to achieve my daytime makeup look listed above ☝???? and broken down below ???????? . . .
Foundation: Estēe Lauder Daywear Tinted Moisturiser
Why I love it: This has been a mainstay in my beauty bag for over two years now and it is a love which doesn’t waver. This tinted moisturiser comes out as a gentle stoney hue and it only adapts to your skin tone when you apply it, hence you don’t need to worry about finding your shade.
Once I have applied the Estēe Lauder Daywear Tinted Moisturiser I IMMEDIATELY feel like I’m ready to tackle the day. Funny how one beauty product can do that for you?! I would apply this even if I didn’t follow up with anything else, it gives coverage, and evens out your skin tone without weighing it down at all.
This above everything else is my hero product for the summer.
Foundation #2: Lancôme Teint Idole Ultrawear Foundation in Shade 049
Why I love it: I started to use Lancôme’s newest foundation earlier in the year. The Ultrawear Foundation is a medium/high coverage product which will leave your skin looking perfected without drying it out or stopping your natural skin from glowing.
It’s the perfect semi-heavy foundation on days when you want full coverage.
During the summer I like to use a touch of this around my T-Zone, it blends perfectly over my tinted moisturiser.
BRONZE & BLUSH
Bronzer: NARS Sun Wash Diffuser Bronzer
Why I love it: This is a gentle bronzer which adds a dusting of colour to your skin. It’s the perfect product to help to accentuate a tan.
I like to apply my bronzer on my cheeks, around my temples, along the side of my nose, along my jaw and down my neck to blend.
Blush: NARS Blush in ‘Orgasm’
Why I love it: NARS’s cult blusher hue – ‘orgasm’ – is a beautiful peachy coral with just the right amount of shimmer running through. A swipe of this on your cheeks will immediately lend you a healthy flushed look.
Eyeshadow Primer: Benefit ‘Stay Don’t Stray’ Eyeshadow Primer
Why I love it: I impulse-bought the Benefit ‘Stay Don’t Stray’ Eyeshadow Primer before my friend’s wedding and I am SO glad I did. I’ve always struggled with eyeshadow which would move, crease and generally mess up, but since buying this product it’s stayed put ALL day. It’s a winner!
Eyeshadow: Tom Ford – Now In ‘Nude Dip‘
Why I love it: Earthy eyeshadows are where my heart lies. I think I’ve veered away from bronzes and taupe tones perhaps ONCE in ten years ???? A brown colour palette works beautifully for summer. It adds depth to your eyes in a way which compliments your natural tan.
Top tip! If you don’t fancy carrying an eyeshadow palette with you on holiday, or you don’t have any brown tones to hand, you can use your bronzer and layer up for a similar look.
Mascara: Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara
Why I love it: For a little while I didn’t have this mascara in my makeup bag and I missed it SO much. I worked through another mascara I wanted to use up with determination but nothing has matched up to this one! The formula doesn’t feel heavy at all but it truly builds up thick dark lashes.
As I rarely wear eyeliner in the summer this is the perfect mascara for creating a little drama around your eyes.
Lipstick: NARS Lipstick in ‘Orgasm’
Why I love it: This is truly the most beautiful natural lipstick shade I think I own. At first it looks like it’ll be quite shimmery but when you apply it the colour adapts to your natural lip colour and leaves you with a beautiful ‘just-kissed’ hue.
Hands down my favourite lipstick on rotation right now.
HIGHLIGHTER & BODY
Why I love it: I challenge you to find a more mesmerising product this summer than the Estēe Lauder bronze goddess highlighter! This is like a piece of treasure in your makeup bag. The gold highlighter is so enticingly sparkly, it lends a beautiful glow to anywhere you put it.
I like to add a little dusting along the bridge of my nose, along my cheekbones and on my shoulders and collar bone if they’re out.
Body Colour: NARS Laguna Body Tint SPF 30 100ml
Why I love it: Want to truly ‘get that glow’? A dab of this body tint will immediately lend you the look of having been away – even if you’ve been stuck behind your desktop for weeks on end.
You can use the NARS Laguna Body Tint applied similarly to a fake tan all over your body – I used it on my legs for a photo shoot just the other day – or as a highlighter for specific areas of skin which you want to look a little more bronzed.
In these photos I applied it to my collar bone and shoulders for a deeper tan.
My makeup in the summer is more bronzed, peachier around the cheeks and lips, and overall a bit lighter than at other times in the year.
With the benefit of a bit of natural tan it’s nice to make the most of more glow-y skin and help it to stand out by accentuating it just enough without weighing yourself down with heavy products.
Peach and bronze is my daytime summer makeup palette of choice!
What’s Your Take?
Have you tried any of the products I mentioned? If so, which ones are your favourites? What is your go-to summer beauty look? I’d love to know!
