Well hi there ????????! Today’s post is a ‘grab a cuppa’ kind.
If you’re a regular reader of The Elgin Avenue, you’ll have noticed some posting gaps of late.
I know you are awesome. And you are an incredibly compassionate and understanding group of readers. (Thank you!!!) But whenever there are gaps on the blog, it makes me feel really bad.
Like all good Capricorns, I have high standards.
If the blog’s off-schedule, you can be pretty certain that there is a LOT going on outside of this little corner of the internet. And I wanted to explain what’s been going on in my life offline.
Life’s not always (if ever!) Instagram perfect, and the past few months have been . . . challenging.
When Oli and I moved house in early February, I was SO unprepared for the total life upheaval we were about to undertake . . .
It’s not ALL about choosing your wall colours?!
People have since(!) told us that moving house, having a baby and getting married are some of the most stressful life events you can go through.
Whilst we have yet to experience the latter two, I can now confirm that moving house is hugely unsettling.
Turns out, it’s not all about choosing wall colours! Shocker.
It’s funny HOW excited you can be about something (as we’ve been with our move) and simultaneously how much it can rock your sense of security.
Trying to keep up with the blog has been taxing, both on the content creation front, and also physically having space to work from. (My office is still half-finished.)
A line in the sand
Many of you have shared my journey over the past 7+ years of this blog, and corny (or creepy ha!) though it may sound, I count you amongst my friends.
Fortunately, as I write this blog post, Oli and I are coming out the other side of the moving chaos.
And as such, after a couple of months of prioritising our new home, this week I’ve decided to focus in on my work again.
Sometimes you’ve just got to draw a line in the sand, and start afresh.
Yes there are still boxes, DIY projects and things to be bought (hiiii Anthropologie!), but our place is TOTALLY liveable now. And it’s a space we absolutely adore.
Oli and I will still be spending a lot of time on our new home, but it’s comforting to be regaining some semblance of normality.
Blouse: Dorothy Perkins c/o PERFECT for spring!
Jeans: Anthropologie – New Season Versions
Challenging though it’s been, I’m SO grateful for our new home, and I’m excited to share more of it with you this year.
(I can’t tell you how many Pins I’ve whipped up for styling inspiration.)
I’ve been following my Health, Home, Hustle principles over the past couple of weeks to try and find my feet energy-wise again, and it’s because of this that I now feel ready to re-embark on my work focuses.
With that in mind . . .
I have a scheduling update for you
From next week onwards I’m adjusting my publishing schedule to two blog posts per week. One on Tuesday, and one on Thursday.
I’ve been thinking about changing things up for a while, and this move has helped me to get perspective on what I can realistically achieve.
Quality has always been my #1 priority for the content I share with you, and I have an inkling that publishing two (as opposed to three) posts per week will help me to focus on the quality conversations I love having with you ❤
So, that’s it from me!
Really, I just wanted to share where I’m at, and have a little heart to heart with you.
Thank you for sticking with me, and being such an awesome, supportive and loving group of readers over the past 7+ years. You make this corner of the internet the happy little nook it is!
What’s Your Take?
Have you ever been though a season of life when you’ve had to de-prioritise something? Or have you moved house and been overwhelmed by it? And, do you have any tips for finding your feet?
I’d love to hear from you!
Love, Monica x
