It’s that time of year again when I’m ready to hang my keyboard up for a few weeks and take a blog break.
Last year was the first time I implemented my “Disconnect to Reconnect” rule and it served me SO well to unplug for August.
I’m excited to do the same again this year!
If you’re new to this concept, I’m recapping why it’s so important to take time out below. I’m also sharing some of my all-time favourite blog posts, to serve you up a bit of archive goodness for August.
Whether you’re staying home this summer, or heading away, I hope that this post inspires you to find some margin for downtime in your schedule too.
Espadrilles: Accessorize c/o – now on sale!
Do you remember when you were younger and the school holidays were all – “YAYYYYYYY 6 WEEKS OF FREEDOM”?!
That time off allowed you – and your teachers! – a proper break.
It was a time to rest and recharge your batteries.
By the time September rolled on round you were ready to head back to school, with new stationery (the best bit!) and tackle the last quarter of the year with a new energy too.
Somewhere along the way, most of us lose that ‘big holiday’ feeling.
I mean, that’s just life right?
But as this article shares, taking a break – especially a long one – is vital for your health, creativity and productivity.
Disconnecting to reconnect means exactly that.
Every now and then we all need to take a break from our daily routines, and the demands of our work schedule, to reconnect with ourselves, our passions, creativity, playfulness, and the people we love.
Plus who doesn’t love the opportunity to have some time off?!
Rested work = your best work.
MY AUGUST PLANS
So, what do my August plans looks like?
On the work front, I won’t be posting to The Elgin Avenue throughout August. If you’re missing a dose of the blog, I’ve rounded up some of my all-time favourite posts at the end of this article. I hope you’ll enjoy re-reading some of the archives! I’ll be back in September and I’m already looking forward to sharing with you then. I have some posts up my sleeve which I’m VERY excited about . . . !
In the mean time, I’ll be taking care of all of those ‘housekeeping tasks’ for my business which I don’t normally get time to do. I just re-listened to Episode 87 of the Goal Digger Podcast with Jenna Kutcher, and I’m implementing all of Jenna’s advice on that front.
My weekly newsletter Croissant Reading – which you can sign up for here – will be going out every Saturday as per usual, and there will be a new episode of Let’s Discuss Podcast hitting your earbuds every Tuesday. Whoop!
As for life off of the blog?
I’m SO excited to take things at a slower pace. Although I’ll be staying home for most of the time, I want to infuse the day to day with a bit more of that holiday magic I remember from our school breaks.
If it’s a particularly beautiful day I want to take the time to head outside with a great book, or steal Oli for a walk.
And I’m excited to have the time to continue working on our home projects, especially my home office!
A FEW POSTS FOR YOU
Whilst I’m heading away for August, I wanted to leave you with a few archive blog posts to read up on. These are some of my all-time favourites, and I hope you’ll enjoy revisiting them too.
SEE YOU IN SEPTEMBER! ????????
