I’ve fondly come to think of this time of year as ‘wrapping up season’.
Wrapping up – in two senses:
- the physical sense of the warmest of garbs – yes Joules rollneck of dreams I’m looking at you! and . . .
- in the sense of closing up shop for the year.
There’s something downright peaceful about knowing that you’re inching that little bit closer to your final work day. Do you find the same?
Today I’m sharing a few of my favourite cosy items from Joules to get a head start on your hygge vibes for the season, and a few of the ways I’m winding down towards the end of the year.
Here’s to being oh-so-close to the end of work for 2017! . . .
ALL THE COSY FEELS
Joules is a brand I’ve come to know and love this year. In the summertime I wore their sweet nautical pieces day in day out, and now that it’s winter their knitwear and accessories are featuring heavily in my wardrobe too.
This Cabell jumper is insanely cosy. I’ve worn it with jeans (as seen here), leather-look leggings, and a miniskirt with boots. It’s one of those classic neutral pieces you can reach for time and time again.
Bonus: it reminds me of something Cameron Diaz’s character would wear in The Holiday so it gets EXTRA festive points from me!
At the moment the oatmeal colour way I’m wearing is out of stock online, but the grey Mariella jumper (which I also have) is very similar and the grey is equally as classic (and The Holiday-esque!).
As for the accessories – really is there anything better than knowing it’s hats n’ gloves season?! There is NOTHING more festive than wrapping your gloved hands around a hot chocolate.
I’m going for all the festive clichés here – but I took my hats n’ gloves-loving-self to the Christmas market, drank mulled wine, perused the stalls and generally enjoyed a little bubble of ALL things yuletide glee this week and it was glorious.
Jeans: Anthropologie | Boots: The White Company | Bag: Karen Millen
My wardrobe over the Winter is 70% classic pieces I can mix and match, and 30% novelty/glitter/checked. This check Berkley scarf veers towards the more neutral end of my festive pieces. Whatever your preference for colours in your wardrobe is – Joules has a checked scarf to match it. Their range is huge!
And although you can’t see it in these photos, I’m wearing my star-print Breton top under my jumper – it was just too darn cold to show you 😂! Joules’ take on the festive Breton is one of my favourite things I’ve seen this year! The star print is a subtle nod, but the Jingle Belle red version is also adorable. You can have a full peruse of the collection here.
And so that’s my roundup of wrap-me-up wardrobe picks for the year!
Now, for a couple of the things I’m doing to personally relax into the season . . .
HOW I’M WINDING DOWN
1 – No Alarms
If I don’t need to get up for a specific time right now, I’m just letting my body rest until it naturally wakes up. I’ve completely overhauled my view of sleep this year (more to come on that in 2018) and I now appreciate a good natural night’s sleep SO much. So whilst I don’t have a lot of commitments on (a deliberate choice I am SO glad I made) I’m enjoying a more peaceful start to the day.
2 – Movie Nights
To Oli’s dismay more often than not I’m a one-episode-on-Netflix-and-then-to-bed kind of person. But just recently we’ve watched a handful of movies together and have LOVED it. With the days getting dark so soon at the moment, it feels so late by 6pm that I’m ready to relax. With that, we’ve been able to watch movies and chow down on popcorn. We even watched a movie on a weekend MORNING and it was SO much fun.
Waking up, brewing fresh coffee and hunkering down under a blanket was heaven.
3 – Reading
This year my friends and I started a book club. It’s been one of my very favourite things to participate in, and it’s completely changed the way I start and end my day. Now, I enjoy reading both when I go to bed, and when I wake up. I’m a real believer in having time for yourself when you first wakeup, without technology or any work demands. Reading is the perfect pastime! Even when I’m not reading our book club book I’ve stuck to the habit.
4 – Generally being a grandma haha!
I jest – but see points 1 – 3 above 😂!
Overall I’m feeling incredibly grateful to be coming to the end of another calendar year, with so many wonderful things behind me (it’s been a BIG year!), and – hopefully! – so many great things stretching ahead too.
I’ve been thinking a lot about Alissa Vitti’s remarks about how your clothes make you feel (both physically and emotionally) and so I’ve made more of a conscious effort than ever to REALLY love the clothes I’m in. To choose the softest cottons, and warmest wools, and all of my Joules ‘wrapping up’ pieces are doing just that for me!
WHAT’S YOUR TAKE?
How are you winding down for the season?
And how are you wrapping up in all of the hygge goodness personally too?
Love, Monica x
