September is such a middle ground when it comes to fashion . . .

If you’re anything like me your wardrobe will consist of a mix n’match array of summery dresses and embroidered peasant tops, sitting alongside heavyweight knitwear and full-length coats. It’s a middle-y time of year which can see you wearing a barely-there sundress with ankle boots one day and zipped up to the eyeballs in last year’s parka coat the next.

Yes, it’s confusing, but it’s also a great opportunity to make the most of those last warm-ish days, and layer up for fashion’s sake rather than total necessity.

One trend which I always look forward to when the temperatures drop is dark florals.

The more wintery incarnations of prints and florals which pepper stores around September are so cosily romantic.

Never one to disappoint, the high street is awash with beautiful dark florals, and just recently I picked up this matching set from River Island. The longer skirt is SO gorgeous, and works perfectly from day (as shown above) with a simple white shirt, as it does for the evening (shown below) with its matching wrap-around top.

I plan on wearing the skirt with a fitted crew neck jumper when it gets colder.

A note on accessories . . .

The time has come when I’m ready to retire my treasured basket bags for the season – this is likely the last you’ll see of them 2017! Much though I would love to continue to wear my woven bags for the entirety of the year, the often-wet weather means that they can get a bit ‘mulch-y’ (gross) and they don’t quite compliment an autumnal look as much as they do a breezy summer one.

In the cooler months I continue to use my straw bags around my home as a place to keep blankets next to the sofa, and even towels in the bathroom. I may not be wearing them but my love for a straw basket continues elsewhere!

As for the accessories I am wearing, I recently picked up a couple of new bags in Topshop which I am in LOVE with.

This little cross body bag is so so beautiful, and it’s only £25! A number of my friends have fawned over it already, and whispered in conspiratory tones “how much was it?” thinking it was designer! I honestly think it’s one of the best bags on the high street right now.

I’m also into bigger earrings, H&M have an amazing selection – the best I’ve found are in store so it’s definitely worth having a nosy around your local one!

What’s Your Take?

I’m so looking forward to ‘boot season’, purchasing my winter coat for the year and changing up my makeup look to incorporate a darker lip colour. I have my eye on the new Victoria Beckham x Estēe Lauder ‘black cassis’ lipstick.

What are you favourite colder-weather trends?

Love, Monica x
