10 Summer Holiday Style Essentials
The summer holidays are in full swing – hooray!
Whilst you daydream of perfectly-whipped gelato, the flecks of sand which will rarely leave your feet and the long lazy evenings ahead, I’ve got you covered on what to pack with a capsule travel wardrobe of 10 items.
I’m sharing five of them here, and you can head to Ella’s blog Coco’s Tea Party to catch up on the second half of our 10 piece packing formula.
We’ve done the style maths and with these 10 items you have SO many outfit options; you’ll need to pack little else extra other than your bikini, trashy novel and SPF!

5 Of The Most Versatile Items To Pack For Your Summer Holiday
HOW TO STYLE YOUR
CAPSULE TRAVEL WARDROBE
1 – The Classic White Shirt
There are rare few items in a summer wardrobe which are more chic and versatile than a classic white shirt.
This particular white shirt by Joules is the perfect weight. It can easily be worn for sight-seeing (with white or pale jeans) and lovely dinners (with a full skirt), whilst it’s light enough to be worn unbuttoned over a bikini as a chic alternative to a kaftan.
A white shirt has long been a summertime favourite of stylish women the world over (think Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday, or Gwyneth Paltrow in The Talented Mr. Ripley) and persists as one of the true summer style classics.
2 – White or Pale-Wash Jeans Jeans
I wore these white jeans on holiday in Menorca with Ella, and even I had some reservations as to how hot they would be (we were navigating 30+ degrees!).
To my delight (because really, there’s nothing worse than sweltering denim!) the jeans were so cool.
White or pale denim, as it turns out, reflects heat amazingly and so it’s easy to don your favourite pair of jeans even on the hottest of days.
A pretty pale grey wash like this pair from Joules is such a pretty hue which will work well into the autumn too.
Try your paler-hued jeans with the classic white shirt, or a Bardot top like this one from Joules.
3 – The Tan Bag
There is a trisector of bags which I religiously pack for holidays:
- the straw basket bag (best bought whilst on holiday)
- the evening clutch bag (which can double up as your jewellery roll for packing)
- and the tan bag
The last of the three is my personal favourite for keeping your essentials close and safe. Wear it to the airport with your passport and documents close to hand. It’ll then become your greatest accessory for exploring.
Tan is my preferred accessory colour of choice for the summer – it looks lighter and brighter than black and sits beautifully alongside a tan of your own!
The cross-body style I’m wearing in these images has been so popular it is no longer available online, but it’s always worth popping into store to check! The ‘Beau’ Leather Bag by Joules is a gorgeous new-season alternative.
4 – The Embroidered Blouse
There is nothing prettier than a beautiful bohemian blouse adorned with embroidery for the summertime. Contrast colours like this gorgeous neon version look particularly pretty, and this Joules blouse is one of the best I have seen on the High St this year. It also comes in a blue colour way.
No judgement here if you choose to snap up both!
You’ll be hard-pushed not to feel immediately in the holiday spirit when you slip your embroidered blouse on. Wear for the evening with a low bun and bronzed skin or in the daytime with tousled waves and your favourite denim cut-offs.
5 – The Striped Dress
Hot on the heels of everyone’s favourite Breton top, the striped dress is a summertime staple.
EASE is the buzz-word of summer style (I mean, you have so many other things to think about – like when your next G&T will be, should you re-apply your SPF already?) and there is nothing more gloriously simple than a summer dress.
This lace-up striped dress from Joules is so cute!
You can wear it simply over your bikini, like I have in these images, or pair it with red lips and flat sandals for a Riviera-esque take on a dinnertime look.
