How often do you wear the dressier items in your wardrobe? An embellished jacket? The mirrored clutch bag? Those amazing sky-high heels?
If you’re anything like me, my dressier pieces – often the most expensive and beautiful – are seen far less frequently than even the items I don’t particularly want to see.
And isn’t that some kind of purchasing/wardrobe crime?
Case in point: I noticed recently a pretty Tiffany blue shoe box perched on my shelves. I realised that within that box was a beautiful pair of rose gold heels I’d never worn in the two years I’d had them.
It seemed sad and wasteful to me that these gorgeous shoes should remain lonely and unworn on my shelves, and so I committed myself to wearing them in the near future.
Admittedly I have got as far as telling you that I am going to wear them, and wearing them to shoot these photos, but still they’re getting air and I am determined to slip them on as frequently as I can.
“I’m sharing a warrior call for the dressier items in
your wardrobe – bring them out, shake the dust off,
dry-clean them if need be and ENJOY them.”
Today, I’m simply sharing a warrior call for the dressier items in your wardrobe – bring them out, shake the dust off, dry-clean them if need be and ENJOY them.
And if you are thinking – “but how can I wear my dressy items day to day?” – simple. Take one part dressy to two parts casual.
– Fancy heels + denim jeans + cotton blouse.
– Lace skirt + white shirt + lace-up flats.
– Cocktail dress, slip-on trainers + leather jacket.
A simple formula, no?
Failing that, you can create an occasion specifically to excuse wearing your very favourite cocktail dress.
The nearing-end of the summer is as good an excuse as any in my mind to enjoy a ‘just because’ party. So host one, and pull on a fabulous dress.
Or you know, an amazing pair of heels 💃🏻

I’m curious to know which dressier pieces in your wardrobe haven’t seen light recently? And how you’d like to wear them? And equally if you have anything you’d love to wear, but don’t know how to?
I hope our UK readers have been enjoying the bank holiday!
