Isn’t it funny how certain fateful puzzle pieces fall in to place? Like how you could be thinking about a friend and suddenly they call. Or you could be craving a flat white and your colleague’s done a surprise coffee run?
I guess you call that serendipity, or fate or whatever it may be. I love those little instances, and they never fail to make me smile.
My Dad and I were in Singapore earlier this year when I stopped dead in my tracks to ogle an incredible stationery store, of a brand I had never seen before. The store held stock of colour-popping storage boxes, inspirational notebooks and gold-tipped pens. Essentially it was every Pinterest fan’s dream store! I noted the brand’s name on my phone – kikki.K – and did some googling once I got home.
I was hooked and couldn’t wait to find out how to purchase kikki.K products when I got back to the UK . . . only I couldn’t as they were not yet on our shores 😓
I put the dreams of my perfect pastel stationery to the back of my mind (sob!) until I got an email from a PR friend of mine who wanted to introduce me to a stationery brand new to the UK . . . you can guess what I’m about to say right?!
kikki.K was coming to the UK and I totally did a celebratory booty shake when I heard the news!!!
Moreover I got to head to the new kikki.K store, located in Covent Garden, to snoop around the brand’s first UK retail space. kikki.K now have two locations in London – one pop up, and one permanent, both in Covent Garden.
Today I am sharing with you my love of kikki.K, plus one simple way to surround yourself with inspiration – exactly what the brand insights its customers to do. With 2016 fast approaching, I cannot think of a better time to invest in a little inspiration to have to hand at all times.
. ONE SIMPLE WAY TO SURROUND YOURSELF WITH INSPIRATION .
If you have explored The Elgin Avenue’s About Us section, hopefully you will have clicked on our Meet The Team tab.
I have been so fortunate this year to have taken on two incredible interns – Elle and Amy – who make the running of this site a whole lot easier and more fun.
They may not know it, but having Elle and Amy around is so inspiring for me, I love their enthusiasm and unique take on the running of The Elgin Avenue.
This year for Christmas, I decided to gift Elle and Amy with a few kikki.K treats, which I hope will lend a little inspiration to their everyday lives. Both girls are students at the moment, and I recall how hard it can be at times to muster up enthusiasm for an essay, or to push through those final hours of revision before an exam.
Working from home too, I appreciate how important it is to create an environment which inspires you.
My one simple way to surround yourself with inspiration?
Place objects within your eye-line which help give you a little boost when you are feeling lack lustre. I have inspirational quotes all around my office, and pretty ornaments which simply make me feel happy when I look at them.
Be it a mug in your favourite colour, or a notebook with a ‘keep going’ mantra . . . by surrounding yourself with inspiring objects, you in turn surround yourself with inspiration and motivation.
Plus it really just is great, to work with nice stationery. It makes every task more enjoyable. You can explore all of the inspirational quotes products from kikki.K here, I have framed a few of these sweet note cards as reminders in my office already.
kikki.K really is an incredible brand. I was lucky enough to attend a talk by the label’s founder Kristina. It is hard not to girl-crush on her!
The story goes, after a panicked 3am wakeup, when Kristina was so bothered by that horrible feeling of ‘not knowing what to do’ she wrote down everything she valued in life, and what she wanted to achieve.
A focus on Swedish design was amongst her priorities, and it was when Kristina found herself falling short of finding any inspiring stationery for her new home office that she was planning, that she realised what her business could be! Beautiful, inspiring stationery, with a focus on Swedish design.
Fifteen years down the line, and kikki.K now has a cult following. There was a huge queue awaiting the opening of the first UK store.
I am so excited to be able to share news of kikki.K with you guys, I know you will love the brand.
And if you are curious about what I gifted Elle and Amy, I’ve listed their pressies below . . .
1 x “Be Brave, Be Bold” Mug. Elle’s is pink but I could only find it in blue online.
I hope that today’s article will have incentivised some of you to surround yourselves with objects, mementoes and reminders to help you stay inspired!
In any walk of life, feeling inspired, I believe, is what keeps fire in your belly, and a smile on your face.
Love, Monica x
