On occasion invitations cross my path for The Elgin Avenue which I can’t quite believe are a REAL THING.
“Would you like to go to Italy to explore one of the world’s greatest vintage emporiums?” for instance . . . um, YES!!!
A.N.G.E.L.O.’s Vintage Palace in Lugo Italy is one of the most well regarded vintage stores in the world, with a collection of pieces – both to buy, and for archive – which A.N.G.E.L.O.’s founder, Angelo Caroli has collected and curated since he was seventeen years old. The incredibly dashing owner has since gone on to build what is little short of a vintage empire, with his namesake store in Lugo, alongside work consulting for infamous fashion houses and curating exhibitions the world over.
Angelo is literally a walking encyclopaedia of fashion history knowledge, he knows every collection, by every designer, for decades – the information he has stored in his (very cool bespectacled) head is unfathomably vast. Whilst myself, and three of my blogging friends, Liv, Carrie and Rosalind had the opportunity to visit A.N.G.E.L.O.’s in Italy, here’s the really great news – A.N.G.E.L.O.’s is coming to the UK in partnership with McArthurGlen Designer Outlet centres. For reals!
DATES & PLACES
SWINDON DESIGNER OUTLET | THURSDAY 30th APRIL – SUNDAY 17th MAY VINTAGE FAIR | VIP WEEKEND 2nd – 3rd MAY
YORK DESIGNER OUTLET | THURSDAY MAY 21st – SUNDAY 7th JUNE | VIP WEEKEND 23rd -24th MAY
So what’s the deal? McArthurGlen are launching a vintage fashion festival at the dates and locations above.
On the VIP dates, Angelo Caroli himself will be in attendance of the festivals, and will host a ‘swap area’ where shoppers can take an item of their own vintage, have it valued by Angelo and swap it for an item the same value should they wish to. Following our visit to A.N.G.E.L.O.’s vintage store in Lugo I can only begin to tell you the treasures Angelo and his team will no doubt bring to the UK! Think vintage Chanel, Hermés, Valentino and so. much. more.
Whilst big label designer vintage is – of course – heart stoppingly exciting, there will be items at the McArthurGlen vintage festival for every budget.
What I loved about visiting A.N.G.E.L.O.’s is that the bottom floor of the multi-tiered shop is dedicated to accessible vintage pieces, with 100 euros I was able to buy a beautiful authentic embroidered folk top, and hand crafted Levi’s denim shorts which I know I’ll use both of SO much during the summer months.
. STYLE TIPS ON WEARING VINTAGE .
I would count myself as a ‘contemporary vintage’ fan, which in my translation means wearing vintage pieces in a modern way. I adore full 70s skirts, and embroidered blouses, but in order to make them feel relevant for now I always pair a vintage item with a modern piece – be that a simple T-shirt, or my favourite denim jeans. You don’t have to ‘look’ vintage, to enjoy vintage.
Many of the designs which hit shops now, are reproductions inspired by the originals. If it’s in great condition and it fits you, wouldn’t it be cool to have the first edition?!
I wore my new vintage embroidered blouse for an afternoon stroll with Oli yesterday.
I can’t recommend heading to the McArthurGlen vintage festivals enough! If you live in the UK it’s definitely worth the drive, Angelo is such a fascinating man, and his vintage collections so vast – it really is going to be something special!
Do you guys love vintage too? And if so, how do you style up your pieces?
Love, Monica x
