MB Meets Nanette Lepore!

Dear Elgin Avenue readers,

A very Happy Wednesday to you all!
A couple of weeks ago, on a very rainy Thursday evening, I had the absolute pleasure of seeking some dry comfort in the beautiful Nanette Lepore store on Westbourne Grove, London.

To my shame, I have to admit that prior to Thursday's event I had never set foot in Nanette's beautiful store! "Why why why?!" I asked myself once enveloped in the Park Avenue ambience of this slice of retail heaven.

Intricate off-white floral chandeliers, hot pink ambient lighting and split-level shopping all make you feel as though you have stepped into a fabulous New York apartment,
and one owned by a lady that has a serious eye for gorgeous clothes!
Myself and Nanette!

Nanette's range plays to my every pattern and colour fantasy. Bright bright hues of fuchsia pink sit nestled against full length ball-gown skirts in neon colours. I got chatting to one of Nanette's associates at the event, we were both ogling the peach neon ball-gown skirt and I suggested how gorgeous it could look in the day time, the lady agreed. When asked if she had seen anyone actually wearing it in the day, she said no. Hmm I feel there is room for a day-time-wearing-neon-ballgown-skirt-precedent to be set!

Do you agree?!

In amongst perusing the divine collections, I was lucky enough to have a one on one chat with the designer herself.
What a lady!
As I have mentioned before I always love to meet designers and women who have paved their own paths in business - it is so inspiring! Meeting Nanette was no exception. Looking gorgeous and incredibly chic in a  matching black and white printed suit (from her own collection of course) Nanette and I spoke of her love of colour and her knack of including colourful hues even for Autumn/Winter.In fact, when reviewing Nanette's Autumn/Winter '12 collection I did not see a single shred of black! Instead Nanette opted for rich forest greens and delicious dark berry hues to provide a backdrop for pops of citrine and cobalt blue.
We also spoke about her lovely daughter Violet who can often be seen accompanying her superstar Mum to take a bow at the end of Nanette's shows. When asked if Violet is likely to follow in her Mum's designing footsteps, Nanette said that Violet is just loving having fun at the moment and is really into her sports - Volleyball in particular.

Whilst I absolutely loved Nanette's store, and both her S/S and A/W collections, perhaps the best measure of her design success is the fact that during our little tet-a-tet we were interrupted a good five times, not by the kind man topping up our champagne flutes (although that was rather nice too!) but by customers bursting at the seams with compliments about the fit of Nanette's designs! Now if that's not a seal of approval from your custom base I don't know what is!

THE  peach ball-gown skirt!
Whatever you do don't leave it as long as I did to discover Nanette's beautiful store, head along to 206 Westbourne Grove London and make a day of it! The area in general is a lovely place to shop, peaceful and classy, with a superb mix of local Notting Hill residents and savvy shoppers. OH and if you are in the market for a fab brunch, Granger & Co. on Westbourne Grove cannot be beaten!

Thank you so much to Nanette Lepore and her fab team (including her lovely nephew who was taking pics on the night!) for such a lovely evening, thank you also to Fran and Pippa from Goodley PR who made such great party partners! The pic at the foot of the page is for you all of you guys!

Have a super evening all!

Love, MB x
